Although not a horse rider or owner myself, I have a fascination with the human/horse connection. Of course, they attract my attention because they are such beautiful animals. Luckily for me, I am now surrounded by them. Many of my friends own and breed these interesting creatures, regularly using horses to muster livestock, compete in events and sports like Polo, Campdrafting and Ranch Sorting. Being originally from Sydney, I always get a thrill when a friend visits turning up at the front door on horseback!

Here I was looking for a monochromatic palette. His form emerges from the Payne's grey background via quickly blocked-in shadows and highlights. More attention to detail is given to the equipment worn by the horse. The contrasting textures of metal and leather that make up the bridle becoming an exercise in drawing technique.
