“Come and paint my horses”, the parting words whenever I talked with this gentle and interesting man — a sparkle lighting up his eye at the mention of his cherished animals. Happily accepting the invitation to the renowned Nundle property and quarter horse stud, I immediately saw my friend’s incredible rapport with the many mares and foals which all came up to him whenever he stopped the ute! At his prized stallion’s pen I was quickly warned, “Stand over there”, a safe distance from the fence as he could get aggressive. My friend calmly opened the gate quietly talking with a handful of hay and the big boy’s body language dropped to submission. This very special morning is captured in “The Mare Paddock”.
